History of LGED

The country of agriculture is in Bangladesh. In this context, rural development is very important in terms of economic progress. At the beginning of the sixties of the last century, four programs were adopted in the Kumalia model for rural development, of which Chhali-

1. Thana Training and Development Center
2. Pallirput program
3. Thana irrigation program and
4. Two-tier co-operative
 
The implementation of the rural infrastructure program included in the Kumalia model is mainly aimed at rural infrastructure development. Is. The Local Government Engineering Bureau (LGEB) was restructured in October 1984 under the WORACS Program Wing Revenue Budget. In August 1992, LGEB was promoted to Local Government Engineering Department (LGED).
 
Apart from the two-tier co-operative program, LGED is implementing the remaining tenitary works in the four programs under the Comilla model. These programs include rural infrastructure development, micro water resource development and urban development. These are implemented under three sectors. LGED is a decentralized organization with about ninety-eight percent of its manpower working in the field.
